Robert '66 & Marcella Barry Make $250,000 Gift to Molloy

Jan. 18th---Archbishop Molloy High School announced today that it has received a generous donation of $250,000 from Robert Barry.  Robert, a graduate of the class of 1966, and his wife Marcella made the gift to honor the memory of Robert’s late parents, William and Florence Barry.   The monies will be used to establish the William Barry Scholarship and will assist students with need-based tuition aid.

Molloy’s President, John Sherry said, “We are most grateful to Bob and Marcella, and their three children, Lauren, Lindsay and Patrick for their generosity and also for serving as role models of our schools motto, “Non Scholae Sed Vitae” – “Not for School, But for Life.”  The value that William Barry placed on his son’s Molloy education will live on forever through this scholarship and will have a profound effect on the lives of those who receive this most important honor.”

Reflecting on the soon-to-be-announced capital campaign, Development Director Jorge De Jesus noted, “This donation will serve as a cornerstone gift for our upcoming capital campaign to endow need-based tuition aid.   Through Mr. Barry’s generosity, we will help to reach out to many fine young people and their hard-working families so that they can fulfill the dream of receiving a fine education at Archbishop Molloy.”

After graduating from Archbishop Molloy High School in 1966, Bob received his B.A. in 1970 from Marist College, his J.D from St. John’s in 1973 and his LLM from NYU in 1977. In that same year, Robert joined Ayco Co. LLP, a firm specializing in providing tax and financial advice to senior executives in large public companies.  He retired from Ayco in 2004.
