Former Seton Hall assistant John Dunne '88 was named head basketball coach of St. Peter's College.
After a grueling process, St. Peter's Athletic Director Bill Stein announced that the university has found Leckie's successor. It will be up to John Dunne, a five-year assistant to Louis Orr at Seton Hall University, to lead the Peacocks as their head coach. More than 50 applicants put in for the post and Dunne was among the eight finalists. He's expected to be introduced at a news conference this afternoon. "Coach Leckie left the program in good shape," said Dunne. "I am enthusiastic to have the chance to keep this program moving forward." Dunne is familiar with the MAAC, having coached as an assistant for two seasons at Siena and one year at Manhattan. This is his first head-coaching job.
"He's is a perfect fit," said Stein. "He has been around the league, has Big East experience and he also knows his way around the private schools, which will help with recruiting. I think we will do well under Coach Dunne."
