Greetings from Molloy - Week Twenty-Four - The Angel's wept

Monday, February 25, 2008

Last week has brought with it much sadness and reflection. Kaitlyn Grogan, a senior at Molloy lost her life in a pedestrian auto accident one week ago. Her wake and funeral took place last week.

When a young person dies in any community, the first question that comes to everyone’s mind is - Why? The answers vary and "in the moment", none make sense. I am confident in my faith that God's mercy will be shown to her family as they grieve their tragic loss. I am also certain that every Stanner will pray for this family. This is what Stanners do.

This week will be bittersweet at Molloy. A member of our family will not be back at her desk. Friends will try to make sense where no sense exists. The faculty and staff will work at the highest level of professionalism - and then, they too, will mourn. Students will remember Kaitlyn - her smile, her verve - and her friends will mourn.

The part of our crest that represents our spiritual development is tied to the Marist "M". It is time to ask Mary to give comfort to our entire family. I would ask that every Stanner remember Kaitlyn, her family and our family in their prayers next week.

Though I have mentioned this in previous articles and notes, I think it bears repeating here. As Brother Roy ends the Morning Prayer every day, "Let us pray for one another".

As for any other events that may have happened this week. They can wait a bit longer to be reported.

God Bless All Stanners!

And may He hold Kaitlyn in the palm of His hand.
