Stanner News Is In the Mail!

It has been a while since we have sent out a Stanner News Alumni Magazine. It is on it's way to you as of this morning. This special Anniversary Edition will hopefully remind you of the good times spent at Molloy and St. Ann's. Our next edition is scheduled for June, just prior to the summer vacation.

Academic - Parent Teacher Conferences were held this week. As always, parents visited teachers to hear good news and challenges, happy and sad reports. For the most part our students do very well as recent reports indicate.

Spiritual - St. Valentine's Day - Students celebrated St. Valentine's day with a "Dress Down" Celebration. They contributed one dollar for dress down privileges. Faculty and staff participated to varying degrees as well. There weren't many ties in site. The contributions from this event and the Campus Ministry candy sale will be donated to another heart felt cause, the American Heart Association. A representative from the AHA will come to the school at the end of the month to receive the donation estimated to be around $3,000. The day represented a win - win for everyone. Congratulations to our young philanthropists.

Academic - Junior College Night - This event, sponsored by Kerry Hughes and the Molloy Guidance Department was the most crowded ever. There were more than 850 parents and students in attendance. Brother David, a Math Professor and former Admissions Director at Manhattan College had the group mesmerized for more than 30 minutes. He has been speaking to our Junior parents for more than 20 years. He repeatedly commented on how lucky our parents were to have students at Molloy and how effective our Guidance process is in placing students in the most logical schools for their skill sets. Hughes, our senior guidance guru kicked off the great College and University hunt with some statistics and a review of the process we use to guide our students through the great college maze. Every parent went home with a kit to point them in the right direction and to give them a roadmap to success. Parents come out each year to hear about the process and the possible scholarships that are available. Last year our students were offered more than $20,000,000 in scholarship aid. Though not all of it was used, it was offered. This represents a genuine monetary return on the investment in a Molloy education. Add to that the other elements of the Molloy Experience, and you quickly see why this place is so special.

Athletic - Sports - Boy's Varsity Basketball heads into the playoffs in the number four spot. JV Boy's Basketball is tied for first place, and the Freshmen are in 4th place as well - all heading into the playoffs. The girls are still in the regular season. This week the Varsity Girl's beat Christ the King for their first loss in 108 league games over a nine year period. A great game and powerful win for the Lady Stanners. Boy's swimming finished seventh in the individual championships, the girls finished second in the individual championships. Hockey is still undefeated.

It was a quiet week for visitors and class news. After last week's 50th Anniversary celebration for Coach Curran, the quiet was a welcome relief.

Upcoming events include: the Golf Outing, the 50th Anniversary Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, The Hall of Fame Dinner and Dedication of the new Hall of Fame Wall.

Career Day is scheduled for April 15th. We could use a few more volunteer alumni as presenters. If you have an interesting career story to tell, or a career path of interest to our students, please contact Mr. Sherry and let him know you are available. President@molloyhs.org.

Special Note - There will be no Blog next week as we are on Winter Vacation. I will be peeking in to check on e-mails and to see if anything is going on while I am away. Till we return in two weeks - in the words of Brother Terence, God Bless all Stanners!
