SMILE 50th Anniversary Celebration

  • When: Saturday, March 21st | 4:00 PM
  • Where: Archbishop Molloy High School
  • REGISTER ONLINE

SMILE (Something More in Life’s Experience) was founded by Brother Leo Richard and Mrs. Sheila Murphy in 1964. The program was designed to help young men - and today young men and women - build self-esteem, confront issues they are facing in their lives, and to learn how to live life in a positive, responsible way. Br. Leo led this initiative from 1964 until his sudden and untimely passing in 1995. The program is led today by Mr. Chris Dougherty ’91.

SMILE is the longest standing non-athletic program in the Molloy/St. Ann's history. The program brought many influential people into the fold, including the late Dr. Patrick Murphy, the late Dr. Robert Englert, Father Edward Doran, the late Sheila Murphy, Mary Michels (founder of Big Brother Group), and Mari Hart. The late Brother Francis Regis and the late Brother Ron Marcellin were trusted resources in the Program as well and were committed to its mission. Many school counselors and teachers consider SMILE to be a model for counseling and social services for the benefit of teenagers. The program has had tremendous impact on the personal and professional lives of countless alumni.

We are looking forward to celebrating the milestone 50th anniversary of SMILE with many of the alumni who benefited from the program during their time at Stanner High, and in many cases throughout their lives. The celebration will take place at Molloy on March 21st, 2015 at 4:00 pm and feature group prayer and reflection, a formal program, reception, and a “SMILE Museum” including artifacts, articles, photos, and archival video footage that will help tell the SMILE story in great detail. We will honor “founders” such as Brother Leo Richard, Brother Ron Marcellin, Brother Francis Regis, Dr. Patrick Murphy, Sheila Murphy, Dr. Robert Englert, Mary Michels, Mari Hart, and Father Edward Doran.  More details will be shared in The Beehive in the coming weeks. If you have any questions or thoughts about the event please contact Joe Sommo ’03 at jsommo@molloyhs.org.

The Stanner Alumni Center shares its Annual Report for the 2012-13 fiscal year with our community. The Annual Report affords Molloy the opportunity to thank those who have so generously given to Archbishop Molloy High School in support of its scholarship program. Your gifts to The Fund For Molloy, named scholarships, and events throughout the year help many deserving, talented students attend or remain enrolled at Molloy. Your support also enables Molloy to upgrade its buildings and grounds, allowing our school to offer the best facilities and learning tools for Stanners to succeed not for school, but for life. Molloy is stronger because of your commitment and dedication to our mission, and we extend our sincerest thanks to all members of our community who have supported Molloy during the 2012-13 fiscal year, and who continue to show their care to our students each and every day.
